I’m very pleased to announce that Playing God: The Bible on the Broadway Stage has been named the 2017 winner of the Byron Caldwell Smith Award for best nonfiction book published by a Kansas resident in the last two years.

Past winners of this award have mostly been US Historians. I’m pleased to be in the company of friends and scholars whose work I admire greatly such as David Roediger,Jonathan Earle, and Jacob Dorman.

There will be a formal presentation of the award and a public lecture at the Hall Center for the Humanities in Lawrence on Tuesday evening September 12. In the meantime, my publisher is celebrating by offering 30% off to folks who purchase any edition of Playing God (paperback, hardback, or e-book) in the next two weeks. Click here to purchase and enter the code UMBIAL at checkout to receive the discount (offer valid through July 28, 2017)
